How to Keep a Robot Build Change Log

Record what changed on a robot, why it changed and which checks must be repeated so observations stay tied to the correct build version.

Give the build a clear version

Record the date, responsible learner and a simple version label before changing parts, wiring or code.

Photographs and test results are useful only when they can be matched to the configuration they describe.

Describe the change precisely

Name the component, connection, setting or file changed and its previous state where known. Avoid vague entries such as fixed robot.

Do not add a manufacturer conclusion or compatibility claim that the evidence does not establish.

Record the reason separately

State the observation or requirement that prompted the change. Keep a suspected cause distinct from a confirmed finding.

This prevents later learners from treating a guess as proven diagnosis.

List affected checks

Identify assembly, wiring, clearance, control or movement checks that need repeating under the authorised test plan.

A small change can affect more than one subsystem. Obtain competent supervision before applying power.

Attach evidence safely

Link suitable diagrams, code references, measurements or photographs without exposing credentials or personal information.

Do not collect evidence during unsafe powered activity or ask someone to film while controlling a moving robot.

Close the entry after review

Record the result, unresolved questions and approving supervisor. Revert or revise the change when the approved evidence requires it.

RoboSkies supports learning and parts discovery; it does not certify compatibility or performance.

Frequently asked questions

Should every screw adjustment be logged? Record changes relevant to build understanding and testing. Can a photo replace the text? No. Should tests be repeated after a change? Review the affected checks.
